The Process

  1. Fill out our Black Hide Beef order form on the Order Now page.

  2. We will confirm you order and let you know the approximate timing.

  3. After the beef is harvested and hanging weight determined, we will email you with the pricing details and give Byron Center Meats your order and contact information.

  4. Shortly after, Byron Center Meats will call you to discuss the processing of your beef.

  5. Byron Center Meats will contact you when your beef is ready to be picked up.

  6. Two payments will be made at pickup. One to Black Hide Beef for the meat. This must be a check. The other to BCM for processing.

Processing Choices - Click here to see the form Byron Center Meats will talk you through to determine your processing requests. You will select cuts from both the front and hind quarter. The animal is split evenly between customers.

Standard Processing - Click here to see approximately what you get in a 1/8 standard cut. Processing is pre-determined. You do not make your own processing requests. 

Hanging weight is the weight of the carcass when all the unusable parts such as the head, hide, limbs, blood, etc. have been removed. Ordering a whole, 1/2, or 1/4 allows you to make processing decisions by choosing the types, amount, and thickness of the cuts. You can also decide how many pounds of burger you want in each pack or you can choose to have it put into patties. 

Buying an 1/8 does not give you choices, but you get a wider selection of cuts than what we offer out of our freezers.

Partnership with Byron Center Meats

We're very thankful Byron Center Meats is willing to partner with local farmers like ourselves. This is a great relationship because we can focus on raising the best quality beef for our customers while they have all the necessary equipment, space, and training to harvest and process the meat as well as provide the customer with the most helpful guidance.

When Byron Center Meats calls you to discuss processing, they will guide you through making your selections. We highly recommend talking with them as we find it very helpful. When you pay at pick-up, one payment will be made out to Black Hide Beef for the meat. An additional payment will be made to Byron Center Meats for harvest and processing.

Pricing Estimates

These estimates are provided to try and help give you a better idea of what it will cost to purchase Black Hide Beef. Each animal's weight will vary, but we'll base the estimates on a carcass with a hanging weight of 750 lbs. It's important to understand Byron Center Meat's fees for processing and harvesting are also based upon the weight and your customized requests. For instance, if you desire pre-made burger patties or ground beef, there will be different fees charged accordingly. So, ALL prices are estimates and will vary, even up to a couple hundred dollars.

Payment to Black Hide Beef: 

$2,250 ($3.00 x 750 lbs)

Payment to Byron Center Meats: $500 (Includes processing, harvest, and patty and/or grinding fees)

Total: Approximately $2,750

1/2 of Black Hide Beef

Payment to Black Hide Beef:

$1,125 ($3.00 x 375 lbs)

 

Payment to Byron Center Meats: $250 (Includes processing, harvest, and patty and/or grinding fees)

Total: Approximately $1,375

1/4 of Black Hide Beef

Payment to Black Hide Beef:

$563 ($3.00 x 187.5 lbs)

Payment to Byron Center Meats: $125 (Includes processing, harvest, and patty and/or grinding fees)

TRUST: We operate and live with honesty as a core value. There is a large amount of trust involved with this process. We do NOT require a deposit. We trust that barring an emergency, you will honor your order. We will do our very best to provide your beef in a timely manner.
